* Dumelang! means “Hello everyone!” in Setswana, the language of my home country Botswana. For me, it’s more than a greeting – it’s an invitation.
I grew up on the banks of the Okavango in Botswana, and I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was a child. In my music, I weave together personal memories and shared experiences with stories and legends from my home country.
After many years of performing as a backing vocalist for some of Botswana’s most renowned artists, the time has come for me to share my own songs with the world – together with my band, and with a sound that blends folk and soul into something truly my own. Afro Soul Folk, made in Marburg.
Together with my producer Manuel Steinhoff and a group of exceptional musicians from both Germany and abroad, I’m currently working on my debut album: “Mainane (Folk Tales)”.
Live, I perform in a trio, as a quartet or quintet – joined by Peter Herrmann (acoustic guitar, vocals), Manuel Steinhoff (acoustic bass, beats, vocals), Noemi Mbutcho (vocals), Fallou Sy (percussion, vocals), or other wonderful collaborators.
I currently perform my music live as a trio, a quartet or a quintet – most often together with these wonderful people:
Peter studied musicology in Gießen and has been performing professionally for many years on electric bass, double bass, and guitar in a wide range of ensembles. His projects span styles from pop and rock to jazz and world music, and have taken him on tour through Southern Africa, the Cape Verde Islands, and across Europe. In addition, he works as a producer in his own Studio Kirchberg, creating music for various publishers and artists, and composing musicals.
A trained musician and graduate of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim, Manuel has been active for many years as a bassist, songwriter, and producer – in Germany and beyond. He invests his energy and passion into new projects, into justice, and into supporting young talent (including as an author of instructional books). Always searching for new and authentic forms of expression, he enjoys experimenting in the creative space between pop, folk, and electronic music.
From an early age, Noemi began playing piano and singing harmonies with her sister whenever the opportunity arose. She performed both solo and as a duo, developing the talent that now enriches Monyana Yôle: adding exactly what a song needs – with her unique vocal tone, always at just the right moment.
Fallou comes from a large Senegalese griot family. Now based in Europe, he plays a variety of instruments including kora, djembe, Fula flute, and guitar. He also leads his own band, Afro-Kunda, which uniquely blends the musical traditions of his homeland with European influences. As the founder of Domou Afrika e.V., he is also committed to supporting music education for street children in Senegal.
I’m currently working with my producer, Manuel Steinhoff, and a number of outstanding musicians from Germany and abroad on my debut album “Mainane (Folk Tales)“.
“Community Singing” is my open workshop format for groups of all kinds – connecting, vibrant, and free from pressure or performance.
I also offer vocal coaching for anyone who wants to discover or further develop their voice.
I love making music together with others. That’s why I’m always excited to contribute to songs by fellow artists. Here are a few of them I’d like to introduce to you.
